House Passes Four Bipartisan Financial Services Bills

Washington, May 14, 2019 -

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives advanced four bipartisan Financial Services bills: H.R. 389, the Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Rewards Act; H.R. 1037, the Banking Transparency for Sanctioned Persons Act; H.R. 1060, the BUILD Act; and a short-term extension of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which was set to expire this month.

Republican leader of the Subcommittee on National Security, International Development, and Monetary Policy Steve Stivers (OH-15) delivered remarks on the Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Rewards Act, sponsored by Congressman Ted Budd (NC-13). This legislation would allow the Treasury Department to offer rewards for information leading to the recovery of assets stolen through foreign government corruption. The Banking Transparency for Sanctioned Persons Act, sponsored by Congressman Denver Riggleman (VA-05), will allow Congress to be more effective in oversight of the sanctions programs. Watch Congressman Riggleman deliver remarks here or by clicking on the image below.

The BUILD Act, sponsored by Congressman Barry Loudermilk (GA-11), helps streamline the regulatory paperwork process that has made it difficult for non-profits, like Habitat for Humanity, to provide zero interest mortgage loans for their clients. Republican leader of the House Financial Services Committee, Patrick McHenry (NC-10), delivered remarks on legislation to extend the NFIP authorization to September 30, 2019, to provide time to reach bipartisan consensus on much-needed reforms to the program.
