McHenry, Hill Statement on Treasury Sanctions Against Russia

Washington, April 15, 2021 -

The top Republican on the House Financial Services Committee, Patrick McHenry (NC-10), and the top Republican on the National Security, International Development, and Monetary Policy Subcommittee, French Hill (AR-02), issued the following statement on today’s sanctions action taken by the U.S. Treasury Department to target the Government of the Russian Federation:

“The sanctions the Treasury Department is undertaking against Russia are significant, and we should ensure they’re part of a broader strategy to achieve clear policy goals. However, it's mind-boggling that the Treasury Department, even as it’s announcing these sanctions, is considering giving the Putin regime access to more than $17 billion through IMF Special Drawing Rights. It looks like Treasury’s right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing, and Secretary Yellen owes Congress an explanation.”
